Brand Story

Like everything else in mom’s world, the story of Batter Noir starts with Zyan! Zyan has Autism and ARFID, and is the coolest kid in the world. We used cooking as a way to work through ARFID, with the motto that “A chef HAS to taste the food they cook!” Through this approach, Zyan discovered so many new foods that he enjoys. He also discovered that he loves baking. Armed with the knowledge that Zyan needed help developing his social and other life skills, Batter Noir was born. I knew that the best way to help Zyan develop was by my side where he is free to make mistakes and be guided through them in a way he understands. Pancakes have always been one of his safe foods, so I took two things he loves and created a business for him to run that allows him to make money just like other teenagers while learning important life skills. Zyan is the owner, lead baker and the shot caller, and mom is quality control...and the bank! Our Autism and ARFID journey has been one for the books. I am just glad he lets me tag along in his world. I am supposed to be teaching him, but it has turned out to be the other way around!                                                                                                                                                                           -Batter Noir
